Harvest

John Dell
Electric Guitar, Background Vocals

E-Mail John

John is known for his crafty guitar work. His playing is bluesy and catchy, with tastefully placed accents that swell into chords as John sings with his Heil Talk Box. Growing up in Mexico listening to Salsa, Cumbia, and Tex Mex has tweaked his sense of melody just enough to set his playing apart, and give the band its signature sound.

Birthdate:
October 22, 1970

Where were you born?
Chattanooga, TN

Where were you raised?
Monterey, Mexico

When did you first realize you wanted to be a musician?
My brother Tom gave me a guitar (that I still have) for Christmas. I went up to a coffeehouse one night and Rocco was running sound, I played some acoustic instrumentals and the rest is history in the making.

Who are your musical influences?
Innovative musicians, any artist with energy that has something to say.

If you could jam with a dead person, who would it be?
Bruce Dell, my older brother.

If you could jam with someone currently breathing, who would it be?
Thomas Slaughter, my other brother.

Harvest. And the art of Tracy Chavez.

Eclectic.

If you were an activist, what would be your cause?
Anything that will help people be happier.

Turn ons:
Good vibes, music, art, freedom, culture, traveling, knowledge, my girlfriend's butt.

Turn offs:
Cheesy people, places & things, negativity, oppression. The usual evil human characteristics.

If you were trapped on a desert island with only 5 albums, what would they be:
Ween - Chocolate & Cheese
Led Zeppelin - The Song Remains the Same
Johnny "Guitar" Watson - Motorhead Baby
Clutch - Clutch
Matthew Sweet - Girlfriend

Favorite Saying:
What up?!

Message to the world:
Try to be good to yourself and the people around you.

Musical philosophy:
I learned from a friend that a good way to think of musical preferences (as well as other things) is to think of it as "What I like or don't like" and not as good or bad. So quite simply, I like sweet, mellow, fuzzed and warm guitar chords and notes.
